Soil Data Accessibility

One mission of the NSSC-GRU is to use technological innovations to expedite the collection, dissemination, analysis, and interpretation of soil survey data and information. The GRU focuses on developing and integrating advanced technologies that deliver NRCS resource information to the user community in a format that is both accessible and readily understood. Efforts at the GRU related to this mission encompass development and delivery of soil survey information in various formats, testing of software products and map production tools, evaluation of soil survey data and databases, and communication of the results of GRU activities. Specific activities include:

  • Create maps (paper and digital) that summarize soil survey information and related data in support national, regional, or local activities related to NRCS objectives
  • Assemble data (spatial and tabular) that summarize soil survey information in support national, regional, or local activities related to NRCS objectives
  • Produce digital archives of soil survey manuscripts
  • Create and distribute training and education materials developed from GRU activities to educate NRCSpersonnel on use of geospatial information and geospatial technologies
  • Test NRCS job aids
